Rider Weight Guide

Flat water SUP weight capacities vary widely by board, but a general rule is to multiply the paddler's weight by 1.1 to 1.4 for the minimum volume needed, adding extra capacity for gear.

Example: A 175 lb paddler + 10 lbs of gear needs a board rated for at least 185 lbs.

Rider Weight Vol. Considerations
< 150 lbs 170–190L Good buoyancy & maneuverability
150–200 190–220L Optimal performance & stability
200–250 220–250L Needs wider boards (33"+)
250+ lbs 230+ L High-capacity boards

Factors That Influence Capacity

  • Board Dimensions: Length, width, and thickness all determine stability and capacity.
  • Board Type: Fishing & Yoga SUPs often have higher capacities for gear/stability.
  • Experience: Beginners want more volume; experienced paddlers can handle narrower boards.
  • Added Gear: Always factor in life jackets, coolers, and cameras.
  • Rigidity: Thicker boards (like our 5" foam core) provide greater rigidity and weight capacity.

Dimensions

  • Length: 9'0"
  • Width: 34"
  • Thickness: 5"
  • Volume: 212 L
  • Weight: 27 lbs

Customer photo review of 9'0" Tahoe 3-Piece SUP - Formula Fun

This board is sturdy & easy to balance on but I’m editing my review to say it’s a bit challenging to put together and tote to the water I’m 5’5 & 127 lbs also, I can feel the foam topping is pealing up at the handle insert as I tote it.Over all I would recommend it for convenience and ease of balancing on in the water.

Customer photo review of 9" softboard upgrade Single Fin

I have this installed on a wavestorm. Super easy install, only need a drill and a screwdriver. The board is a lot more responsive and maneuverable while having better hold and control in steeper stuff. Overall, it’s a steal for the price.

Customer photo review of 9'6" SanO - Formula Fun

My new SanO 9'6 is SOOOOO FUN! I just took it out for its second session, and I was catching so many waves! I got comments on how easy I made it look, and 'What kind of board is that?' This is a step up in length for me (my previous longboard was 9'0), and I was a little bit worried it would be 'too big'. But it responds great with my back foot over the fin (I have it set up as a single fin with the fin fully forward in the box) and I was going left or right with ease in knee to waist high glass. I am officially in love with the SanO 9'6! And with no need to wax and great grip, it is so convenient!

Customer photo review of 8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

So far I am loving it. It’s light and small enough to fit into my VW ID 4 sedan. I have been using it primarily to get fit with paddle strength in preparation for longer surf trip.

This board has been amazing. It has made it easy to get up and cruise down the wave. The buying process was smooth. Thanks for a great surfboard.

Customer photo review of 6'4" Zippers - Formula Fun

Cool product. Anxious to see how it performs in decent sized surf. Included future fins are a great value; although I thought it also included a free leash. Still awesome little Zipper!

Old guy learning how to surf here. Was able to catch 4 waves in nyc’s summer season with my very limited ability. Definitely made it fun for me.

Customer photo review of Eco-Leashº - Black

I have not had a chance to try it, but it looks terrific and arrived intact I referred your brand to Ireland trader surf and Stewart gentleman named Dave. I’m sure he’ll be reaching out to you. I would also like to acquire some more boards possibly being able to resell them for promotions with different beverage brands give me a call when you’re free up at 954-817-2805 or shoot me an email at charles@allisongroup.com, kind regards C

I love the board. The only thing that I wanted to tell you guys is that I needed to add wax on the sides because without it, it can be very slippery, I had two bad experiences there. Also it's a heavy board... but I'm getting stronger ;)

9'6" SanO - Formula Fun

I’ve been really happy with my 8' Formula Fun. It feels sturdy and well made, and I like that the foam is at least less environmentally harmful than a lot of traditional surfboard foams. Compared with my Catch Surf, it feels narrower and more like a mid length than a big, loggy foam board. I also tried an Almond before and found it a little too buoyant, so this feels like a really nice middle ground. Plenty of float, but still feels planted and responsive. The deck grip is great too, definitely better than my Catch Surf. I honestly don’t feel any need for wax. My only complaint is the center handle. It’s nice to have, but the board isn’t perfectly balanced around it, so carrying it one handed puts more strain on your hand than I expected. Overall, really happy with it. Easy and forgiving without feeling overly bulky or floaty.

8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

Occasional surfer that’s ridden mostly longboard. Got the 7’10 to help transition to shorter board and transport on plane. Takes some used to getting up vs 9’6 san O, but still floats and paddles well.

8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

We love the board. Perfect for my kids and suitable for myself! Easy to move around and a quick learn for the kids.

5'3" Twinnie - Formula Fun

The order/shipping process was very frustrating. I ordered and paid for the board in full on 6/17 and was promised it would arrive by 6/22. It did not deliver in time for my step-sons fathers day gift from me and he was not able to take it on their family vacation. Very frustrating and embarrassing for me as a step dad trying to be a good guy- The board finally did arrive and is nice-

Got it out to Oceanside pier T4 today, first time to really get the feel of it. Seems very stable (I need more practice), and paddles very well, I was impressed at how easy it was to paddle. So far I am very happy with it.

9'6" SanO - Formula Fun

I love the board! It’s easy to assemble, take apart and is very light so easy to carry when assembled. I thought it advertised a carrying case for when not assembled but it didn’t come with one which is my only negative feedback.

I will be reuniting with the ocean and the sea after a 30-year Hiatus of first lesson first wave on the Hawaiian island beach of Waikiki. I look forward to surfing the beautiful Waters of New Jersey with my dear friend Edmund as my beautiful guide back into the surfing lifestyle experience healing on this with the Earth.

9'6" SanO - Formula Fun

The board has been fun However one week in the top layer is peeling off. I would like to know how to fix it

9'6" SanO - Formula Fun

The board is great! It’s easy to put together and take apart. Paddles and maneuvers really well. It feels more like a hard board and not a foamie. I have inflatables and a foamie board and this is the best of both for transportation. If there was an option for a 1 piece board I would invest in that and replace my foamie. I use the formula fun Tohoe and have my kids use the other boards.

Down here in southern FLA waiting for the wind to switch to drop in...board looks good shipping no problem and no charge!! Mutcho Gusto

8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

Pretty much just a cheap piece of styrofoam that cost 600 bucks. Mine arrived already dinged they did offer me my money back if I sent it back or 100 dollars back if I kept it. To avoid the hassle of shipping it back I took the 100 dollars and now I really wish I would have sent it back. It damages VERY easily and do mean VERY! First time out chunks of foam are coming out of the rails just from gripping them and it has tear in rail about a inch and half deep towards the tail. I know any board can ding but these things just have no durability at all, like I said don't be fooled by their marketing terms it's basically just styrofoam and cost way too much for what it is! Also if you're larger like 190 pounds or more this board doesn't offer enough flotation and surface area to carry and distribute your weight. Definitely not the board for me, wish I would have sent it back!

8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

Great leash, easy to install.

Blazin Leash

New surfer and I’m really loving my new board! The color is awesome and so is the non slip top. Made well and so much fun out in the waves.

8'0" DOHO - Formula Fun

I liked it. Perfect mix of performance and user-friendly design—I’d highly recommend it.
